LIGHTNING RIGHT THE SHIP WITH IMPRESSIVE 3-1 VICTORY OVER BARD COLLEGE AT THE APEX

The Lehman College women's volleyball team (7-4 Overall, 3-2 CUNYAC) got back on track as they defeated the Bard College Raptors (5-4 Overall, 2-2 Skyline) by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 22-25, and 25-12 Saturday afternoon at the APEX Center. The victory snapped the Lightning's two match losing streak.

Lehman was led by freshman Lisa Jagdeo in the victory, as she put forth a terrific all-around match with four kills to go along with 11 assists and five digs. Fellow freshman Gerri-Ann Martin also continued her phenomenal season for the Lightning as she tallied a match-high eight kills to go along with 10 digs and three service aces. Sophomore Lakeisha Gordon also chipped in with six kills, and Jillian Acevedo tallied a team-high 16 digs. Following the victory, Daniel Skilins was very impressed with his team's effort.

“I felt as though we transitioned the ball very well this afternoon,” Skilins said. “Lately, we've been cutting down on our hitting errors and ball-handling errors, and that is important. I was glad to see us bounce back from a tough loss to City College, and hopefully this energy will carry us into Monday's match against St. Joseph's (Brooklyn). As far as Bard College is concerned, I respect Michael (Abalos) tremendously. He is doing a great job with this team. Their squad is very talented and with Michael recruiting and coaching, their program will only continue to grow.”

In a losing effort for the Raptors, Aleksandra Romano and Iga Mrozek chipped in with six kills apiece. Romano also put forth 17 digs and Mrozek tallied 11 digs. Rachel Van Horn recorded five kills and 15 digs in the loss as well.

The Lightning will return to action Monday evening as the team travels to Brooklyn for a non-conference match with St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), with match-time scheduled for 7:30pm.
