LEHMAN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM DROPS CUNYAC MATCH TO HUNTER COLLEGE, 7-2

The Lehman College women's tennis team (0-3 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC) dropped their third consecutive match to start the 2008 campaign, falling to the Hunter College Hawks (1-0 Overall, 1-0 CUNYAC) by a score of 7-2 Thursday afternoon in a match played at the APEX Tennis Courts on the campus of Lehman. With the victory, the Hunter College Hawks extended their CUNY Athletic Conference winning streak to 48 consecutive matches.

In doubles action, the Lightning took an early match lead with and 8-5 victory in the first doubles contest. Lehman standouts Evauna Neville and Aurora Peters defeated Hunter's duo of Stefanie Smith and Linda Ravul. The No. 2 doubles team of Natalee Smith and Mina Jeung of Lehman lost 8-2 to Hunter's Ericka Jaramillo and Bomi Park. Finally, in the No. 3 doubles match, Lehman's combination consisting of Amaia Liriano and Juyoung Kwon were defeated by Hunter's tandem of Nora Milman and Olga Gervitis 8-0, so after doubles play, Hunter held a 2-1 advantage.

As play moved to singles, the Hawks eventually pulled away from Lehman, capturing five of the six singles matches. The Lightning's lone victory of singles competition came from Neville, as she downed Smith at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Following the defeat to the Hawks, Head Coach Zack Davis expressed his thoughts on the match.

“It was the first time that we captured a set from Hunter on the women's side in three years,” he said. “They didn't have their best team out there but we still played them very well. I'm happy that our squad is finally coming together and playing well collectively.

The Lightning return to action tomorrow afternoon, taking to the road to battle the Medgar Evers Cougars in another CUNYAC battle, with match-time scheduled for 4:00pm in Queens, New York.
