MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS DROP CONFERENCE MEETS TO BEARCATS

The Lehman College men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to the pool last night as the squads battle the Baruch College Bearcats in conference action in New York, NY. Lehman's men's squad (2-5 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC) fell by a score of 133-71, while the Lightning women (2-7 Overall, 1-2 CUNYAC) dropped their third consecutive meet, losing by a score of 112-69.

Despite the loss for the men, Nick Shala put forth a tremendous effort in the 800 Freestyle as he placed first with a time of 10:52.72 In addition, Orlando Urena placed second in 100 fly (1:13.35) and 50 free (26.95) events. On the women's side, Judy Espinal placed second in the 50 Freestyle (31.89) while Luisa Garcia finished in second place in the 200 IM (2:56.84) and Hyacinth Bouzalakos recorded a second place finish in the 100 Freestyle (1:24.82).

Following the meet, Head Coach Peter Kiernan gave his thoughts on how he feels his team performed.

“We turned the line-up upside down at this meet and swam events that we needed to get times recorded to qualify for those events at CUNY's” Kiernan said. “I'm not sure where our athletes will swim yet and need the flexibility to arrange our championship line up with the best chance to win. Everyone was terrific and did best times for the season.  It was our first meet in a 25m pool this year but even converted, the times were close to, or better than seasonal best times.”

The Lehman College men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to the pool on Thursday afternoon as teams head to the College of Staten Island to battle the Dolphins in conference action, with meet time scheduled for 1:00pm.
