The Lehman College women's tennis team (5-5 Overall, 2-3 CUNYAC) dropped a tough match Friday afternoon, falling to the Baruch College Bearcats (5-3 Overall, 4-1 CUNYAC) by a score of 5-4 in an intense match played at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.
All three doubles matches were highly-contested, with the Bearcats winning two out of three. At No. 1 doubles, it was Baruch's combination of Shalanda Graham and Mariam Mkrtchyan defeating Lehman's pair of Evauna Neville and Aurora Peters by a score of 8-6. The Bearcats' Alina Bero and Alexandra Vamanu turned back the Lightning's Gabrela Harewood and Melissa Hemick 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Lehman's doubles victory came at No. 3 where Natalee Smith and Ravnit Bhatia defeated Baruch's combo of Natasha Gregorio and Paolo Feliz, 8-5.
When play switched over to singles, the squads split the six sets, accounting the for 5-4 final score in favor of Baruch College. The three Bearcat victories came at No. 2 singles (Graham over Peters, 7-6, 6-2), No. 4 singles (Vamanu over Hemick, 6-3, 7-4), and No. 5 singles (Gregorio over Adela Ibric, 6-0, 6-3). Lehman captures wins at No. 1 singles (Neville over Mkrtchyan, 6-3, 6-0), No. 3 singles (Harewood over Bero 7-5, 6-1), and No. 6 singles (Smith over Feliz, 6-2, ww)
The Lightning return to action tomorrow afternoon as Lehman will battle the York College Cardinals in CUNYAC competition, with match-time scheduled for 1:00pm.
