WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYS FLAWLESSLY IN 9-0 VICTORY OVER YORK COLLEGE CARDINALS

The Lehman College women's tennis team (6-5 Overall, 3-3 CUNYAC) defeated York College (3-4 Overall, 3-3 CUNYAC) in a conference match by the score of 9-0 Monday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.

 

Lehman dominated doubles play to set the tone for the match. At No. 1 doubles, Evauna Neville and Aurora Peters defeated York's Valerie Roland and Amba Pika at No.1 by a score of 8-2. No. 2 doubles saw the Lightning's combination of Gabrela Harewood and Melissa Hemick put away the Cardinals' Ashley Willock and Jesmin Bhuyan by the score of 8-2. Finally at No.3 doubles, Lehman's Natalee Smith and Ravnit Bhatia silenced York's Alexandra Nkrumah and Khirandeep Bhamba by a score of 8-0.

 

When play switched over to singles, the Lightning continued to stifle the Cardinals. At No. 1 singles, Neville defeated Roland, 6-1, 6-3. No. 2 singles saw Peters down Wilson, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Harewood put away Pika, 6-1, 6-1. Hemick outlasted Willock 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. No. 5 singles saw Bhatia defeat Tillman 6-3, 6-1, and at No. 6 singles it was Smith downing Nina Olladikankwu 6-2, 6-0.

 

The Lightning will return to play Wednesday afternoon as Lehman will battle the Medgar Evers Cougars in a CUNYAC match at the APEX Tennis Courts, with start time scheduled for 3:30pm.
