The Lehman College softball team (4-20 Overall, 2-8 CUNYAC) dropped a pair of conference games on Sunday afternoon to the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island (16-10 Overall, 6-2 CUNYAC) by scores of 15-0 and 14-0 at the South Field in the Bronx.
In the first game, both teams were held scoreless in the first inning. The Dolphins would plate five runs in the top of the second inning and eight more in the top of the third to take a commanding 13-0 lead after three frames. CSI would add a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to account for the final score. The Dolphins' Kaitlin Flynn paced her team at the dish with a grand slam while Allysa D'Elia finished 3-for-4 with three singles and three runs scored.
Danielle Ponsiglione pitched for CSI and got the win, hurling five innings and allowing no runs and one hit while walking one batter and striking out four. Victoria McMahon pitched five innings for the Lightning, taking the loss. Offensively for Lehman, the team's lone base hit was a single by Monique Sampson.
In game two, Nicole Estrada led CSI with two hits, including a double and a triple and two RBI. Carmella Lubrano added two hits and an RBI while Jillian Graniero went 1-for-3, registering two RBI. Dolphin pitcher Michelle Ferraiuolo grabbed the win, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out five. Natalie Martinez pitched for the Lightning and took the loss. Sampson, who recorded Lehman's lone base hit in game one, did the same in the second contest, as she singled to account for Lehman's one hit.
The Lightning will return to action Tuesday afternoon as the team will battle Polytechnic University in a non-conference doubleheader at the South Field, with the first game scheduled to begin at 3:00pm.
