SOFTBALL FALLS TWICE TO JOHN JAY COLLEGE BLOODHOUNDS IN CUNYAC DOUBLEHEADER

The Lehman College softball team (4-22 Overall, 2-9 CUNYAC) dropped a pair of CUNYAC contests, falling to the John Jay College Bloodhounds (12-17 Overall, 6-4 CUNYAC) by scores of 17-2 and 12-4 (both via five inning mercy rule) at Floyd Bennett Field.

 

In the opener, John Jay scored nine runs in the bottom of the first and six in the bottom of the second to take a 15-0 lead after two innings. The Bloodhounds were never threatened in the contest and pounded out 18 hits in the win. John Jay's Nelly Vega was 4-for-5 with four runs and two RBI. Fellow teammates Arlene Pena and Olivia Marquez had three hits a piece in the victory. Pena was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBI, while Marquez was 3-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBI. Offensively for Lehman College, Monique Sampson went 1-for-1 with a triple, a run scored, two walks, and an RBI.

Angela Lam picked up the win in the circle after allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six. Natalie Martinez suffered the loss for the Lightning.

In the second game, Lehman scored three runs in the top of the first to grab a 3-0 advantage in an inning that was highlighted by a two-RBI single to center by Victoria McMahon. John Jay came to bat in the bottom half and quickly claimed the lead, however. John Jay plated eight runs in the first and three in the second to grab an 11-4 after two frames. John Jay scored enough runs to win via the mercy rule with a run in the bottom of the fourth to go up by eight.

The Bloodhounds' Vega once again was a spark going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and three RBI. Pena was 2-for-2 with a run and four RBI. At the dish for Lehman, McMahon finished 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBI's. Martinez went 1-for-1 with two walks and two RBI's.

Nina Chao picked up the win for the Bloodhounds in game two after allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits. McMahon took the loss for Lehman College.

 

The Lightning will return to action as the team will host Sarah Lawrence College in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, with the first game beginning at noon. Prior to the action, the Lehman College athletics department will take a few moments to honor lone senior Christy Pasqualicchio in a special pre-game ceremony.
