The Lehman College women's tennis team (4-4 Overall, 1-2 CUNYAC) picked up their first victory in conference play this season, defeating the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology (2-3 Overall, 1-3 CUNYAC) by a score of 9-0 on Monday in a match played at York College in Jamaica, Queens.
The Lightning set the tone for the match early by dominating in doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, Lehman's combination of Evauna Neville and Adela Ibric turned back City Tech's duo of Olayinka Sarayi and Alma Cabral Reynoso by a score of 8-2. No. 2 doubles saw Gabrela Harewood and Melissa Hemick defeat Anaelle Tanis and Xiuqin Li by a score of 8-0, and the Lightning's Ravnit Bhatia and Natalee Smith defeated the Yellow Jackets' Stephanie Trochez and Bashirah Henton by a score of 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
When play switched over to singles, the Lightning continued to have their way with NY City Tech, as Lehman captured all six singles sets. No. 1 singles saw Neville down Reynoso 6-1, 6-0. Harewood defeated Sarayi 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. No. 3 singles saw Hemick turn back Li 6-0, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Ibric downed Tanis 6-0, 6-0. Yasmin Samuels quieted Trochez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and finally at No. 6 singles, it was Alexandria Reel defeating Henton, 6-3, 6-2.
The Lightning will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as Lehman travels to Staten Island to battle the College of Staten Island Dolphins in another CUNYAC match, with start time scheduled for 3:30pm.
