A Win To Remember

Saturday was a special day for Coach Zack Davis' Lightning women's tennis team.

Not only did Lehman earn a win, which is always a good thing, but they did it against long time nemesis Baruch College, a team that has had the Lightning's number for as long as anyone can remember.

The idea of history repeating itself was thrown to the wayside early in the match as Lehman grabbed all three doubles matches to start the day on a positive note.

The No. 1 doubles pairing of Krystina Nguyen and Ravnit Bhatia defeated Anna Komar and Marianna Kogan 9-7; Alexandria Reel and Daraliz Collado upended Yekaterina Pinchevskaya and Michelle Bravo 8-6 in No. 2 action; and Dalia Rodriguez and Ashley Cox topped Barbara Lucas and Katsiaryna Druzhynin 8-3 in a showdown of No. 3s.

Singles competition was extremely competitive with three of the six matches going the full three sets, including several tiebreakers. Lehman's Collado was the only Lightning player to win with relative ease as she beat Lucas 6-1, 6-0. Other victors for the Lightning included Smith, who knocked off Kogan 7-5, 6-4; Nguyen, who outlasted Pinchevsk 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (3-7), 9-7; and Yasmin Samuels, who overcame Druzhynin 6-4, 6-4.

Baruch's two wins did not come easily as Komar defeated Bhatia 2-6, 6-4, 7-0 and Bravo battled tooth and nail against Rodriguez before coming away with the 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 8-6 win.

Lehman wraps up their CUNYAC schedule on Monday when they head to Brooklyn for a 12 p.m. Columbus Day matchup with the Bulldogs.
