The Lehman College softball team (3-16 Overall, 1-7 CUNYAC) split a pair of conference games on Saturday, defeating the Bloodhounds of John Jay College (9-5 Overall, 7-5 CUNYAC) by a score of 11-3 in game one, but falling in game two by a score of 14-5 at the South Field in the Bronx.
In game one of the afternoon, Lehman College starter Natalie Martinez hurled a complete game, tossing six innings and allowing just three runs (all earned) while striking out a pair of batters. Angela Lam took the loss for John Jay as she allowed six runs (five earned) in two innings while giving up six hits and walking a pair.
Offensively for the Lightning in the game one victory, it was Fanny Souffront singling three times and finishing 3-for-4 while scoring two runs and driving in three. Luz Garcia doubled, singled twice, and picked up three RBI's, and Jennifer Mena finished 3-for-4 with three singles and two runs batted in. Finally, it was Vania Cadet finishing 2-for-4 with two singles.
Danielle Bonici went 3-for-4 for John Jay with three singles and a run batted in, and Nelly Vega singled twice and scored two runs. Marina Gomez doubled, singled, and drove in a run as well.
In game two of the afternoon, the Bloodhounds rallied back from an early 2-0 deficit after two innings of play to take control from the third inning forward. John Jay would plate six runs in the top of the third and never look back from there, going on for the 14-5 victory. Nina Chao hurled a six-inning complete game and picked up the win, allowing five runs (all earned) while striking out five. Racine Brown took the loss for Lehman College, allowing six runs (four earned) while allowing four hits, walking five, and striking out four.
Christina Perez had a tremendous game at the dish for John Jay in game two, going 2-for-4 with a double, triple, a run scored, and four runs batted in. Bonici doubled and finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in while walking twice and Marina Gomez singled twice.
Offensively for Lehman College in game two, Racine Brown went 3-for-3 with three singles, two runs scored and an RBI. Kelsey Ash doubled, singled and finished game two 2-for-4, and Luz Garcia singled twice.
The Lehman College softball team returns to action Wednesday afternoon as the team takes to the road to battle the College of New Rochelle in a non-conference doubleheader, with the first game scheduled to start at 4:00pm.
