The Lehman College softball team (8-23 Overall, 3-11 CUNYAC) picked up a pair of conference victories on Friday afternoon, defeating the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology (1-18 Overall, 0-8 CUNYAC) by scores of 18-0 and 15-1 at the South Field in the Bronx. The Lightning – playing the games on their home field – were designated the road team for the contests.
The afternoon was highlighted by the performance of Racine Brown as she pitched a no-hitter in game for Lehman College, tossing a five inning complete-game shutout and allowing just two walks while striking out nine. Genesis Tavarez took the loss for the Yellow Jackets in game one by allowing 18 runs (only eight earned) on 12 hits.
Offensively for the Lightning it was Kelsey Ash doubling and finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Vania Cadet singled twice, scored twice, drove in a pair of runs and walked, and Samantha Baez went 2-for-3 with two singles, two runs scored, three runs batted in, and a walk.
In the second game, Natalie Martinez got the start and took the win, hurling four innings and allowing one run (unearned) on two hits while walking three and striking out four. Kelsey Ash pitched the final inning and didn't allow a run despite walking three. Tavarez tossed game two for the Yellow Jackets as well and she took the loss, allowing 15 runs (12 earned) on 16 hits.
Offensively, Lehman College picked up 16 hits – and six players had at least two hits or more. Cadet picked up where she left off in game one as she finished 3-for-4 in game two with two doubles, a single, and three runs scored. Fanny Souffront doubled, singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in two, and Kelsey Ash doubled, singled, scored two runs and drove in two. Finally, it was Natalie Martinez singled twice, scored three runs, drove in two, and walked once as well.
The Lightning will finish out their regular season tomorrow afternoon as Lehman travels to Sarah Lawrence College to play a non-conference doubleheader against the Gryphons, with the first game scheduled for noon.
