The Lehman College softball team (2-11 Overall, 0-4 CUNYAC) dropped a conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon, losing two games to the Bearcats of Baruch College (8-12 Overall, 4-0 CUNYAC) by scores of 12-0 and 12-4 at the CSI Softball Complex in Staten Island, New York. The losses served as the seventh and eighth straight defeats for the Lightning.
In game one of the afternoon, Baruch College's Andrea Tepfer pitched a five-inning, complete game no-hitter, striking out 11 batters in the process. The only baserunners that the hurler allowed were because of a pair of errors in the top of the fifth inning, as Luz Garcia reached on an error by the pitcher, and that was followed by Fanny Souffront reaching via an error by Bearcat third baseman Cristina Arce. Racine Brown took the loss for the Lightning.
Offensively for Baruch College in the first game, it was Melissa Pena finishing 1-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in, and it was also Ashley Brandow going 2-for-3 while scoring a pair of runs. Arce walked and scored three runs, and Andrea Feeney went 1-for-3 with a single, a run scored, and a run batted in.
In game two of the afternoon, Lehman hurler Natalie Martinez pitched 4.1 innings, taking the loss while allowing 12 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits. Nicola De Vine picked up the win for Baruch College, as she tossed 4.1 innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on four hits while walking eight batters and striking out seven.
The Bearcats scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back from there. Offensively for Baruch College in the second game, it was Idelissa Lluveres putting forth a great effort at the dish as she finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a homerun, a pair of singles, and four runs batted in.
For Lehman, it was Martinez going 2-for-3 at the plate in game two with a double and a run scored, and Souffront went 1-for-1 with a single, two runs batted in, and two walks. Bethany Rodriguez also contributed with a single, a pair of walks, and a run scored as well.
The Lightning return to action on Wednesday as Lehman College travels to Brooklyn for a CUNYAC doubleheader with the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3:30pm.
