Game 2 Box Score

The Lehman College softball team dropped a pair of conference games to Brooklyn College on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Bulldogs by a score of 12-2 in game one and 16-5 in game two. With the losses, the Lightning fell to 2-13 overall and 0-6 in conference play, while Brooklyn upped its record to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in CUNYAC action.

In game one, Bulldogs starting pitcher Nicole Barrasso hurled five innings, allowing two unearned runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out four. Her counterpart, Natalie Martinez of Lehman College, took the loss allowing 12 runs (eight earned) on nine hits, while surrendering six walks and striking out one.

Brooklyn would score at least one run in every inning, highlighted by a five-run third inning. Tess Studholme led the way for the Bulldogs offensively in game one, as she drove home four runs going 2-for-3 with a double. Bethany Rodriguez had a terrific game for the Lightning despite the loss as she singled three times and scored a run.

In the nightcap, Barrasso and Martinez both got the calls again for their teams, with Barrasso picking up the victory once again. She hurled five innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits while walking three batters and striking out four. Martinez took the loss, throwing four innings and allowing 16 runs (nine earned) on 17 hits while walking three and fanning two.

Studholme once again carried the Bulldogs offense going 3-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored. She doubled home Norah Marley, who singled to start off the first inning, and later cracked a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth, which also plated Marley. Studholme's long ball began a five-run rally in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Jenna Ferrara went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore Samantha Lombardi also went 3-for-4 scoring three times.

Despite the loss for the Lightning in game two, it was Genesis Batista singling, walking and scoring a run. Claribel Herrera singled, scored a run, and drove in two.

The Lightning will return to action Thursday evening as Lehman will battle Polytechnic University in a non-conference doubleheader at the South Field in the Bronx, with the first game set to begin at 5:30pm.
