Lightning Drops Tough Match to York

In a tightly contested match on Saturday afternoon the visiting Lehman College women's tennis team fell to CUNYAC rival York College (3-5 overall, 3-3 CUNYAC) by a score of 6-3 dropping their record to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Highly competitive tennis was the order of the day as four of the six singles matches went the three set distance: Ravnit Bhatia defeated Allana Wilson 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 (No. 1 singles); Krystina Nguyen fell to Amba Chanoine 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 (No. 3 singles); Dalia Rodriguez topped Nina Olladikankwu 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 (No. 4 singles); and Ashley Cox squeaked by Irma Ruilova 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 (No. 6 singles).

Rounding out the singles action, Natalee Smith (No. 2 singles) lost to Nicole Jones (6-2, 6-1) while Alexandria Reel (No. 5 singles) was tamed by Ana Ko (6-3, 6-1).

Doubles action produced similar evenly matched tennis that unfortunately for the Lightning left them on the short end of all three matches.  In No. 1 doubles, Chanoine and Jones battled Bhatia and Smith to an 8-6 win; Wilson and Olladikankwu scratched out an 8-5 victory over Cox and Reel in No. 2 doubles; and Tenzin Kunchok and Ko handled Samuels and Rodriguez 8-4 in No. 3 doubles.

The Lightning look to rebound on Tuesday when they visit 3-1 Kean University at 3:30 p.m.
