Women's Tennis Drops First CUNYAC Matchup

Defending CUNYAC Champion Hunter wins 9-0

On a sun splashed Tuesday on the campus of Lehman College, the Hunter College Hawks began the 2010 CUNYAC schedule in the same fashion as they ended the 2009 campaign – with a win.

Last year's CUNYAC champions put forth an outstanding overall team effort to defeat Lehman College by the score of 9-0 and earn their first CUNYAC victory of the season.

Lehman's most impressive singles action came from No. 5 Ashley Cox and No. 6 Natalee Smith, who both hung tough with their respective opponents, Ericka Jaramillo and Nora Milman, before falling 8-3.  In other singles competition, Hunter's No. 3 Arielle Kamin defeated Lehman's Yasmin Samuels 6-1, 6-0 while the Hawks' No. 4 Stefanie Smith topped Alexandria Reel 6-2, 6-0.

In a battle of No. 1 singles, Hunter's Jane Selegean blanked Ravnit Bhatia 6-0, 6-0.  Number two singles action produced a similar outcome with Hunter's Jennifer Kraham stopping Dalia Rodriguez 6-0, 6-0.

The Hunter No. 1 (Selegean/Kraham) and No. 2 (Kamin/Smith) doubles pairings defeated their Lehman counterparts (Bhatia/Rodriguez and Samuels/Reel) by a score of 8-0.  In No. 3 doubles Lehman's Cox/Smith duo was defeated by Hunter's team of Jaramillo and Milman.

Lehman College (0-1 overall, 0-1 CUNYAC) returns to action on Thursday when they travel to the campus of Medgar Evers for their second CUNY showdown.

Update: Hunter was later forced to forfeit the match due to playing with a player not currently on their roster.
