The number in the win column for the Lehman softball team remained stuck on two Thursday night following a doubleheader loss, 16-8 and 18-1, to John Jay College in the Bronx, which dropped the team to 2-10 on the season.

Despite its lopsided loss in game one, the Lightning actually posted its highest offensive output of the season (dismissing its earlier doubleheader win over an overmatched City Tech squad on March 19).

Catcher Vania Cadet was never retired, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Junior Genesis Batista drove in two while going 3-for-4 and Toni Angel Puya stroked the team's first home run of the season, a solo shot to right center in the third.

All that was not enough to overtake the Bloodhounds, however, as John Jay jumped all over Lightning starter Natalie Martinez, scoring 11 runs in the first two innings of the game, including a nine run second courtesy of seven hits and four Lehman errors.

The excellent work that Batista put in at the plate for the Lightning in the first game was somewhat undone in game two as the Bloodhounds pounded her for 18 runs and 17 hits in four innings of work. Ten walks by Batista contributed to Lehman's demise.

John Jay's Lana Kovac allowed one run over her five innings of work to pick up the win.

A tough non-conference doubleheader awaits the Lightning on Monday afternoon, as the College of New Rochelle visits the Bronx for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
