BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman women's tennis team will have to wait another day to gain its first victory as it suffered its fifth consecutive loss to open the 2011 season on Monday afternoon, falling 6-2 to visiting York College.
The Cardinals grabbed a commanding 3-0 lead by taking all three doubles matches - and surrendering only three points overall – to open the conference confrontation.
Sophomore
Daraliz Collado, who defeated Amba Chanoine 6-3, 6-2 in No. 2 action, and freshman
Nellya Blinova, who defeated Nina Olladikankwu 6-3, 6-3 in No. 3 singles play, were the only Lightning competitors to capture wins.
Marisela Camano, playing No. 4 singles, and
Patricia Cadet, slotted in the No. 5 spot, each took one game in losing 6-0, 6-1 to their respective opponents, Anna Ko and Tenzin Kunchok.
Lehman's No. 1 singles player,
Ravnit Bhatia, battled through a tough opening set against Valerie Roland, losing 7-5, and was tied at 6-all before darkness set into to force an end to the match.
The City College of New York poses the next challenge for the Lightning, who looks to get in the win column when it returns to the court on Tuesday afternoon.
