BRONX, N.Y. - The final results may not have leaned in favor of the host Lightning men's and women's swim teams on Monday night against Baruch College, but the night was far from a failure.

Despite the men dropping a 122-77 decision and the women falling 108-58, three Lehman school records were broken as freshman Abel Dupres eclipsed two former Lightning standouts while senior Basilisa Alonso wiped a third from the history books.

Swimming the 200-yard IM after loosening up with the 200-yard medley relay, Dupres surpassed Evangelos Sianos' mark of 2:04.18 set in 1997, touching the wall in 2:03.97.  He then one-upped himself by taking the 100-yard backstroke in 55.62, which erased the previous mark of 55.75 set by current assistant coach Freddy Sanchez in 2000.

Alonso actually got the record-breaking ball rolling early in the meet.  Her time of 2:11.05 in the 200 freestyle was over two full seconds better than the previous record-holder, Elaine Hochuli, who finished the race in 2:13.10.  Alonso's performance amazingly was not good enough to win the event, however, as Baruch's Julia Sung took first with a time of 2:09.04.  The Lightning senior earned second in the 100-yard butterfly as well, finishing in 1:08.87.

Also of note was junior Ivan Srdanovic, who captured first place in the 100-yard freestyle as he outdistanced Ryan Flynn with a winning time of 49.58.  Additionally, he took second place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.27).

Other Lehman swimmers to just miss out on a top spot were Adriana Navarrete (50-yard freestyle, 28.47) and Ramon Peralta (100-yard butterfly, 57.40).

The Lehman women hop back into the water on January 11 against St. Joseph's College (BK) while the men will wait until January 17 to face York College.
