BRONX, N.Y. - Senior Basilisa Alonso captured three events and set a new school record in another as both the Lehman women and men defeated their counterparts from the College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon at the APEX Aquatics Center.

Buoyed by Alonso and junior Adriana Navarrete, also a three event winner on the day, the Lightning women downed the Dolphins 115-85.  The Lightning men were equally successful, riding Ivan Srdanovic's two first place finishes to a 120-94 victory.

Both the Lightning men and women did a good job of offsetting several first place finishes by the Dolphins, capturing a host of points from the second and third runner-up positions.  In fact, Lehman earned points from three of the four scoring positions in eight of the day's 26 events.

“I'm happy with the girls' performance,” said Lehman head coach Peter Kiernan.  “They knew they had a chance to win and they put their heart and soul into it.”

Alonso earned the first of her three victories in the 200-yard freestyle, outdistancing CSI's Priscila Alvarez by a wide margin, 2:13.86 to 2:43.72.  She turned in a similarly dominant performance in the 200-yard IM, finishing in 2:44.02 to Lauren Overeem's 3:12.79.  Her final official victory came in the 100-yard backstroke, which she won in 1:13.57.

Alonso saved her best swim for last as she blazed through the water in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:23.00 to set a new Lehman record, besting the previous record time of 1:24.34 by Nadia Alie in 2010.  Though possessing the top time swam in the event, Alonso was not credited with her fourth win as she competed as an exhibition swimmer.

No records were set by Navarrete, but the Lehman junior was steady throughout in grabbing the 50-yard freestyle (28.39), 100-yard freestyle (1:03.65) and 500-yard freestyle (6:40.61).

Rosy Perez (1:34.28) and Yocari Almanzar (14:36.26) also garnered first place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and 1000-yard freestyle respectively.

For the men Srdanovic was top dog in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.82) and 100-yard freestyle, where his time of 49.30 was just shy of a new school record.  In the 50-yard freestyle, Lightning swimmers Chris Polanco and Ramon Peralta pushed each other to the end with Polanco just out-touching Peralta by 0.08 seconds to win in 23.21.

Next up for the both the men and women will be York College on Monday evening.
