Meet Results

BRONX, N.Y. - If Thursday evening's dual swimming and diving meet against Brooklyn College is any indication of how the Lightning will fare in the new year, then 2012 is looking pretty good as both the men and women earned their first conference victories of the season by downing the Bulldogs.

The Lehman men captured a 103-91 victory while the women prevailed 99-85.

Senior Basilisa Alonso was a three event winner for the Lightning as she took the women's 200-yard IM (2:36.70), 100-yard butterfly (1:10.09) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:25.75).

Lightning junior Yocari Almanzar took first place in the women's 1000-yard freestyle (14:22.25) and second in both the 50-yard freestyle (31.48) and 500-yard freestyle.

Adriana Navarrete, the Lightning women's most consistent swimmer through the first part of the season, swam to a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:25.52) and a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:04.69).

On the men's side, freshman Ramon Peralta was over three minutes better than the next closest finisher, teammate Nikiray Colon (14:44.79), in the 1000-yard freestyle, capturing first with a time of 11:37.75.  Peralta also outdistanced the competition in the 100-yard backstroke with a winning time of 57.02.

Junior Shqiprim Shala was also a two-event winner, claiming the 200-yard IM (2:23.78) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.76).

Ivan Srdanovic (200 free, 1:54.25) and Chris Polanco (50 free, 23.54) were the men's team's other top finishers.

Both the men and women are back in the pool on January 9 when conference rival Baruch College heads up to the Bronx.
