Women's Soccer Falls to Brooklyn College, 1-0, in Non-Conference Play

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. – A goal in the 18th minute was all Brooklyn College needed to defeat Lehman College, 1-0, in women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.  Despite both teams being members of the CUNY Athletic Conference, this was a non-league match.

On the goal, Sayla Flores took a corner kick, and sent the ball towards the near post. Waiting was her teammate, Jillian Protin, who neatly returned the ball to Flores. From near the end line, Flores struck the ball with her right foot, bending the ball into the goal at the far post.

For the remainder of the match, both teams had opportunities to score, but could not break through. On the afternoon, Brooklyn took eight shots on goal, with Lehman keeper Melanie Varillas (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) making seven saves. Lehman mustered four shots on goal, with Brooklyn keeper Melissa St. Louis making four saves.

Lehman is now 5-7, and 3-3 in the CUNYAC, while Brooklyn is 5-5-1, and 2-3 in the CUNYAC.

The Lightning return to action on Thursday, October 18, travelling to face Medgar Evers College.
