Women's Soccer Closes Out Regular Season, Beats John Jay, 2-1

MASPETH, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team finished the regular season on Friday afternoon with a 2-1 non-conference win over host John Jay College, in a game played at the Metropolitan Oval. Lehman finishes the regular season at 7-7, while John Jay is 5-14.

Lehman grabbed a 1-0 lead in the game's third minute, when freshman captain Samantha Dias (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) scored an unassisted goal. John Jay would tie the game midway through the second half, only to have Lehman striker Tiffany Altamirano (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) score the eventual game-winning goal in the 79th minute, on a pass from Thamare Rejouis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Science Skills Center).

For Altamirano, the goal was her team-leading seventh of the season.

For the game, John Jay \out-shot Lehman 19-5, but the majority of the Bloodhounds' shots were not on target.

Both teams will advance into the 2012 CUNY Athletic Conference/Applebee's Women's Soccer Championship, which begins with the Semifinals on Wednesday, October 31. Lehman is the #3 seed, and will play at #2 CCNY, while #4 John Jay will play at top-seeded Staten Island.
