PURCHASE, N.Y. - On Friday, November 16, the Lehman College men's and women's swimming and diving teams split with the Purchase College Panthers, in a meet held in Purchase, N.Y. The Lightning men won 116-82, while the women lost 124-46. The women's team falls to 0-2 on the nascent season, while the men advance to 1-1.
On the women's side, Lehman took a 1-2 finish in the 500-yard freestyle event, with Aytaissa Estime-Kirkpatrick (New York, N.Y./LS 3) winning with a time of 6:52.79, and Jordan Leigh Perez (Spring Valley, N.Y./Mt. St. Ursula) taking second.
The men were much more dominant, winning seven events, and taking a 1-2 finish three times. In the 200-free, senior Shqiprim Shala (Queens, N.Y./John Adams) won the event in 2:02.29, with junior Marc-Alan Lee (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale-Kingsbridge Academy) taking second. In the 50-free, freshman Alexei Kalinin (Brooklyn, N.Y./Goldstein) took first in :25.18 with sophomore Chris McKie (Rosedale. N.Y./Valley Stream Christian) second, and in the 100-butterfly, it was freshman Jose Polanco (Woodside, N.Y./American Studies) taking first in 1:01.92, with Shala right behind.
The women return to the pool again on Tuesday, November 20, at John Jay College, for a 6:00 p.m. meet. Both teams then take a break for Thanksgiving, and swim again on Wednesday, November 28, at St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn. The meet will be held at Brooklyn Tech at 7:30 p.m.
