STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - One of the tenets of baseball and softball is that if you make the plays in the field and get just enough hits, you'll win more games than you lose.

On Saturday afternoon against the College of Staten Island, the Lightning did neither of those in the team's doubleheader loss to the Dolphins, losing by the scores of 8-0 and 11-3.

Lehman was dominated in the opening game by Dolphins' starter Danielle Ponsiglione, who allowed just one hit while striking out nine.  She was backed by an offense that put up a four spot in the second and another three runs in the fifth on the way to a shortened six-inning victory.  Lehman's lone hit came off the bat of Toni Angel Puya with two outs in the fifth inning.

Sheila San Andres was pegged with the loss despite giving up just four earned runs.

Undaunted by its non-existant offensive output in the first game, the Lightning jumped on the board early in the second game, scoring in the first inning without the aid of a hit as Natalie Martinez walked and came around to score on a throwing error by Dolphins' pitcher Stephanie Solari.

CSI matched the Lightning with its own run in the bottom of the first.

Lehman went back on top in the third on an RBI from Ashley Williams, but then watched as the Dolphins strung together five hits to score four runs with the big blow - a two-run triple - coming off the bat of Kaitlyn Flynn.

A run in the top of the fourth by the Lightning on Janet Ortiz's RBI single was nullified by another big inning by CSI as the Dolphins plated five more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-3 lead.

Ortiz led the Lightning in the loss with her 2-for-3 effort at the plate.

York College travels to the Bronx on Monday for a doubleheader as the Lightning will look to rebound.
