NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Hunter Hawks broke open a close contest with a 13-run third inning to grab an 18-2 win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader and then watched as starter Amanda Annicaro stifled the Lightning on just four hits for an 8-0 win to complete the sweep and drop Lehman to 5-11 overall.

Lehman had built a 2-0 lead through two innings on an RBI single by Jelsey Cox and an RBI double by Janet Ortiz, but was overrun by the Hawks in the third.  Hunter nearly batted around twice in the inning, lashing 11 hits and also taking advantage of two Lightning errors which opened the door for the Hawks to come barging through.

As if the onslaught in the third wasn't enough, Hunter tacked on five more runs in the third for its final margin.

In the second game Hunter starter Angel Iacovetti was nearly untouchable, allowing only three hits over six innings while striking out 11 Lehman batters.

Toni Angel Puya picked up two of the Lightning's four hits with Ortiz collecting the other.

Lehman travels to Brooklyn on Saturday to face the Bulldogs in another conference battle.
