BRONX, N.Y. - Add two more wins to the record of the surging Lehman softball team as the Lightning swept visiting John Jay on Friday night, giving it six wins in its last eight games and pushing its conference record to 5-7.

Lehman took a wild first game, 16-15, before blitzing the Bloodhounds 14-5 in a five-inning contest in the second game.  The Lightning rapped out 31 hits combined in the two games with Janet Ortiz going 7-for-9 with four RBIs and Sheila San Andres collecting five hits in nine at-bats, also with four RBIs.  San Andres also picked up her sixth win of the season in game two.

In the first game Lehman jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but then watched as John Jay scored three runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to go in front 11-8.  The Lightning answered with six of its own in the bottom of the inning as Ashley Williams drove in a pair with a single down the left field line and San Andres plated two with a double to retake the lead at 14-11.

The Lightning's defense let it down in the top of the sixth, however, as John Jay used two hits and three Lehman errors to score four runs.

Unable to do anything in its half of the sixth, Lehman entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 15-14.  Vania Cadet started the inning with a single, which was followed by a walk to Ashley Falcon.  Cadet would score the tying run on a single by San Andres and a corresponding John Jay error.  With runners on second and third, Ortiz stroked a single to left to end the game.

The second game followed a similar pattern from the perspective of the Lightning swinging the bats with authority from the start.  Four Bloodhounds errors combined with six hits amounted to a nine-run opening inning for the Lightning, who proceeded to score in every inning going forward on the way to the five-inning win.  Jelsey Cox added her second home run of the season, a solo blast, in the second inning.

The offensive onslaught was more than enough for San Andres, who used the big lead to her advantage before being touched up for four runs in the fifth inning.  Effectively mixing in her breaking ball, she walked only one while striking out three.

Only two games remain for the Lightning, both against non-conference opponents, before the beginning of the CUNYAC Championships on May 2.
