BRONX, N.Y. - The visiting St. Joseph's Bears ruined the Senior Day party on the South Field on Thursday afternoon, banging out 28 hits and 30 runs to sweep the Lightning in its regular season finale.

Bears righthander Alyson Chiaramonte limited the Lightning to just two hits in the opener while striking out 13.  Her offense did the rest, posting a six-run second inning and then following that up with three in the fourth and four in the fifth to end the contest after five innings.

Lightning starter Sheila San Andres was uncharacteristically wild, issuing nine walks and hitting three batters in the rainy conditions.

Lehman's two hits came in the fifth off the bats of San Andres and Genesis Batista, who knocked a two-run single to account for the Lightning's scoring.

The Lightning hung with the Bears in the second game, trailing 5-3 after four innings.  However, St. Joseph's put on its hitting shoes over the fifth and sixth innings, scoring 12 runs to end the game after six frames.  At one point in the fifth the Bearcats put together four consecutive doubles.

Like Chiaramonte, St. Joseph's starter Lisa Scheer surrendered just two hits to the Lightning, though she was constantly working with runners on base courtesy of the 10 walks she issued.

Prior to the game, the Lehman Athletics Department honored three four-year seniors - Genesis Batista, Vania Cadet and Natalie Martinez - for their contributions to the softball program.

Lehman finishes its season at 12-18 and will begin preparations for next week's CUNYAC Championships when it will meet Brooklyn College on May 2.
