BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Lehman Lightning softball team did something it hadn't done since 2007 on Monday afternoon: beat Brooklyn.

In fact, over the last three seasons the Lightning had been outscored a combined 71-18 by the Bulldogs.

With the win, Lehman surpassed its total of a season ago with its eighth victory.

The win came after a 7-0 first game loss during which the Lightning was stifled by Bulldogs starter Marie Oneto, who scattered five hits and struck out seven over her seven innings on the mound.  Brooklyn did all of its damage in one inning - the second - when the Bulldogs scored seven runs on six hits, the big blow coming on Maria Mantagas grand slam.

Lehman regrouped nicely in the second game behind starter Sheila San Andres, who tossed her most efficient game of the season, allowing just two runs while walking none in the Lightning's 8-2 win.

San Andres was backed by Jelsey Cox's two hits and two RBIs as well as RBIs from Janet Ortiz, Genesis Batista, Toni Angel Puya and Ashley Williams.  Ortiz's RBI came on her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot that tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth.

The Lightning continues its stretch of conference opponents on Wednesday when Baruch College will travel to the Bronx for a doubleheader.
