John Jay Stings Women's Soccer in 1-0 Loss

Box Score

NEW YORK, N.Y. – John Jay College scored the lone goal of the game in the waning minutes of the first half, sending the Lehman College women's soccer team to a 1-0 defeat on Saturday afternoon. The match was vital in the CUNY Athletic Conference standings, as John Jay now has the upper hand on the fourth and final post-season berth.

Lehman (6-7, 1-3 CUNYAC) is now in fifth place in the conference, behind fourth place John Jay (3-10, 2-2 CUNYAC). Both teams have two conference games remaining.

Playing its first game in ten days, the Lightning got off to a slow start. But it was John Jay who scored first, in the 42nd minute, as the ball was crossed into the box from the wing, and put past keeper Melanie Varillas (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle). It was the only one of John Jay's five shots on goal in the game that found the netting.

Lehman, meanwhile, managed just five total shots, of which only two were on frame.

Lehman will now have another long break between games, as its Wednesday, October 16 match with Sarah Lawrence College has been postponed. No makeup date has been set.

The next game on the schedule is Saturday, October 19, a home match against CCNY, who is currently in third place in the CUNYAC.
