Offensive Attack Propells Women's Volleyball to 3-1 Win Over NYU-Poly

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team is back on track, and extended their current winning streak to three matches, by defeating host NYU-Polytechnic, 3-1, on Friday night. Set scores were 25-22, 20-25, 25-16, 25-17.

Lehman has now won four of its last five matches, running the season record to 17-6.

For the second time in as many nights, Lehman struggled early before regaining its composure to win in four sets. Tonight, Poly (3-13) pushed hard early, before yielding to the powerful Lehman attack.

Junior Jo-Marie Aquino (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) once again led the offense, with a game-high 16 kills. She now has recorded double-digit kills in her last three matches.

Classmate Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) returned to action tonight, and recorded 10 kills, eight digs, and three service aces.

Four different Lightning players recorded double-digit digs, led by Aquino with 15. Junior Julia Mercado (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had 14, followed by sophomore Imani Dubois (West Palm Beach, Fla./J.P. Taravella) with 13, and junior Jessica Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Theatre) with 11.

The Lightning will next play at Rutgers-Newark on Monday, October 21.
