BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened up the season against cross town rival Mt. St. Vincent on Friday night. The men claimed the win, 79-40, while the women finished in a dead heat, 87-87.
The women's match was close throughout, with the outcome not decided until the very end. The Lightning were trailing with one event to go -– the 200-free relay – and pulled out the win in that event to even the score. Leading Lehman was senior Aytaissa Estime-Kirkpatrick (New York, N.Y./LS3), who won the 500-free, and was a member of the winning 200-free relay team, and classmate Adriana Navarrete (Lima, Peru/Law and Community Service), who won the 100-yard freestyle.
The men's meet was more of a time trial for the Lightning, against a very over-manned CMSV squad. Lehman won every race on the night, before racing as exhibitions midway through the meet. Sophomore Anthony Preda (Long Island City, N.Y./Basha) was a double-winner for Lehman, winning the 1000-free and 100-fly.
Next Friday, November 8, Lehman will host St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, at 6:00 p.m.
