BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman College women's swimming and diving team dropped its CUNY Athletic Conference opener to John Jay College, 112-99, on Tuesday night at the APEX Pool.
The Lightning (1-1-1, 0-1 CUNYAC) won only four individual events and one relay on the evening, but used its depth to score points throughout the night and keep the score close. However, Lehman's depth could not overcome a talented John Jay (3-1, 1-1 CUNYAC) squad.
Senior Adriana Navarrete (Lima, Peru/Law and Community Service) was Lehman's sole double-winner, winning both the 100 and 200 yard freestyles. Sophomore Susana Perez (New York, N.Y./Community Health Academy) claimed first place in the 100-back with a time of 1:17.44.
In the one meter diving competition, Lehman finished 1-2, as freshman Joannie Vargas (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.) scored 122.03 points, and classmate Meilyn Hernandez (Palisade, N.J./Manhattan Center) scored 96.38 points.
The Lightning will return to the APEX Pool on Friday, November 15, as both the men and the women take on SUNY Purchase. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
