Swimming and Diving Teams Split with Purchase College

BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman College women's and men's swimming and diving teams settled for a split on Friday night against Purchase College. The men's team won, 152-77, to advance their record to 2-0, while the women fell short, 140-77.

On the women's side, senior Adriana Navarrete (Lima, Peru/Law and Community Service) was a double winner by earning first place in the 50- and 100-free. Freshman Joannie Vargas (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.) won both the one and three meter diving events.

The men were led by junior Ramon Peralta (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy), who took first place in the 200-free with a time of 1:54.10. He also won the 100-back.

Sophomore Anthony Preda (Long Island City, N.Y./Basha) was also a double winner by taking first place in the 100-breast and the 200-IM. Freshman Carlos Alonso (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) won the 100-butterfly with a time of 57.94.

Senior Nelson Medina (Peekskill, N.Y./Lehman H.S.) took first place in the one meter diving competition while sophomore Adolfo Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.) won the three meter event.

The Lightning will be back in action on Monday, November 18, as both the men and the women battle local rival, SUNY Maritime. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
