BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team managed to get the season underway on Monday afternoon, and dodged snowflakes en route to a 13-3 loss to Purchase College. Game Two of the doubleheader was postponed due to the snowstorm.

The Lightning got two runs in the second inning, when junior centerfielder Jelsey Cox (Queens Village, N.Y./Campus Magnet) and sophomore first baseman Ashley Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership) led the inning off with consecutive singles. With two outs, and runners on second and third, junior left fielder Ernestine Grant (Brooklyn, N.Y./Manhattan Center) doubled to left center, driving in two runs.
Lehman's third run came across in the third, when junior pitcher Sheila San Andres (Woodhaven, N.Y./Construction Trades) doubled home senior short stop Janet Ortiz (Shady Hills, Fla./River Ridge).
