Softball Falls Twice at SJC of Long Island

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader with St. Joseph's College of Long Island, 10-2, and 9-6. Lehman remains winless on the season at 0-7, while SJC is 10-6.

In the opener, the hosts put up a four spot in the first inning, on two hits. The Lightning did escape the inning though, as SJC left the bases loaded. In the Lehman second, with junior Yatnery Almonte (Bronx, N.Y./Stevenson) at second base and junior second baseman Cynthia Vasquez (Queens, N.Y./CTEA) on first, senior short stop Janet Ortiz (Shady Hills, Fla.,/River Ridge) singled to right where the ball was misplayed, sending both runners home. That was as close as the Lightning would get, as the Eagles went on for the 10-2 win.

In Game Two, Lehman Led 6-5 after five and a half innings, before SJC scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to take the win. Vasquez and Ortiz each had three hits in the game, with Ortiz driving in four runs.

The Lightning will play at St. Joseph's of Brooklyn on Monday.
