BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team ran into a buzz saw on Tuesday night, dropping a pair of non-conference games to NYU-Polytechnic under the lights on Lehman's South Field, 9-1 and 15-2.

In the opener, the score was tight, tied at 1-1, through four innings. Lehman got its run in the fourth, when senior Janet Ortiz (Shady Hills, Fla./River Ridge) came across the plate. In the fifth inning, Poly blew the game open with five runs.

In Game Two, freshman third baseman Jona Kerluku (Ozone Park, N.Y./CTEA) singled home junior outfielder Jelsey Cox (Queens Village, N.Y./Campus Magnet) in the second inning, then Ortiz blasted her sixth home run of the season, a solo shot, in the bottom of the fifth.

Lehman will face local rival Mt. St. Vincent on Thursday, April 18, at Van Cortlandt Park.
