BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team dropped a double header on Thursday night to local rival Mt. St. Vincent, 6-3 and 12-4.
In the opener, Lehman trailed 2-0 after two innings, when junior Cynthia Vasquez (Queens, N.Y./CTEA) singled on a bunt, then stole second base. She then advanced to third on an infield error and scored on a passed ball.
The Lightning got a pair of runs on the fifth inning, when Vasquez and senior Janet Ortiz (Shady Hills, Fla./River Ridge) each singled and scored.
In Game Two, Lehman led 4-2 in the middle of the fifth, before yielding ten runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Down 2-0, the Lightning scored a pair of runs in the top of the third, both with two outs. Vasquez and Ortiz had back-to-back singles, and scored on a base hit by junior Yatnery Almonte (Bronx, N.Y./Stevenson).
Lehman went up 4-2 in the top of the fifth, when, once again, Vasquez and Ortiz crossed the plate.
The next games for Lehman are a home doubleheader on Saturday, April 20, when CUNY Athletic Conference rival Hunter College comes to the Bronx for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch.
