Generoso, Dias Score in Women's Soccer Win Over York

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman College women's soccer team bounced back and defeated CUNY Athletic Conference foe York College, 3-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the South Field. This is the Lightning's first conference victory of the season.

Sophomore midfielder Juliana Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) led the way with two goals while Samantha Dias (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) tallied a goal of her own.

Generoso struck first for the Lightning (5-5, 1-2 CUNYAC) when she took a pass from sophomore midfielder Andrea Vazquez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Center for Science & Math) from midfield and beat the defenders and goalkeeper to put Lehman up 1-0, just over 13 minutes into the match.  Dias extended the lead for the Lightning on a set piece on a corner kick, taking a pass from freshman midfielder Leidy Valencia (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and shot a rocket into the net from 15 yards out to make it 2-0, with 39:01 left in regulation.

After the Cardinals (1-7, 0-3 CUNYAC) sliced the lead in half, Generoso provided more heroics, as she went one on one with the keeper. Her first shot hit the post, and the rebound came straight back to her, and she scored into a wide open net to increase Lehman's lead back to two.

On defense, sophomore keeper Melanie Varillas (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) made a pair of saves to earn the win
