Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team won a hard-fought, 2-1, non-conference decision over visiting St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn on Monday afternoon. With the win, the Lightning up their record to 6-5, while SJC is now 1-6.

All three goals in the game came in a five minute stretch in the first half. Opening the scoring was Lehman sophomore Juliana Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle), who took a through ball from Andrea Vazquez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Center for Science and Math), and beat the keeper for her 11th goal of the season.

Barely a minute later, the Bears tied the score at 1-1, with a tough shot that found its way past Lehman keeper Melanie Varillas (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle).

Not to be outdone, Lehman pressed, with freshman Jean Fischer (Yonkers, N.Y./Ursuline) scoring her first college goal, a she settled a crossing pass from sophomore Samantha Dias (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) and put Lehman up 2-1.

In the second half, both teams traded opportunities. With about five minutes remaining in the game, SJC had perhaps their best chance, only to have their shot sail just high of the goal.

Varillas made two saves, while Nicole Farinella of SJC made 4.

Up next, Lehman travels to Brooklyn College on Wednesday afternoon, for a non-conference tilt. Their matchup earlier in the season counted as the CUNYAC match.
