ALLENTOWN, PENN. – The Lehman College women's soccer team beat St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 4-0, in the opening game of the Cedar Crest College Soccer Tournament on Saturday. The Lightning (2-1) will face the NYU-Poly in the Championship Game on Sunday, at 3:00 p.m. NYU-Poly defeated host Cedar Crest, 2-1, on Saturday.
The Lightning scored three goals in the first half and never looked back. Sophomore midfielder Andrea Vazquez (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Center) scored in the 25th minute, then again in the 32nd minute, as Lehman took a 2-0 lead. Not to be upstaged, sophomore Juliana Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) scored in the 33rd minute, for the 3-0 halftime lead.
Generoso scored the fourth and final goal for Lehman in the 56th minute for the 4-0 final.
Lehman dominated play, taking 24 total shots, while holding SJC to just two.
Sophomore keeper Melanie Varillas (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) played the first 66:20 in goal to earn the win, before Marleny Hernandez (New York, N.Y./American Studies) finished up in goal, for the split shutout.
