BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Lehman College swimming and diving teams settled for a split decision at CUNY Athletic Conference rival Brooklyn College on Saturday afternoon. The Lightning men's team won, 129-83, while the women's team lost, 96-80.
Senior Adrianna Navarrete (Lima, Peru/Law and Community Service) led the way for the women with first place finishes in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-free. Sophomore Christy Maldonado (Ridgewood, N.Y./Academy of Finance and Enterprise) took first in the 200-free, and was a part of the first place 200-free relay team. Classmate Elizabeth Oladele (Bronx, N.Y./A.P. Randolph) earned a first place finish in the 100-breast.
On the men's side, sophomore Enes Mernica (Bronx, N.Y./Belmont Prep) was a double-winner, taking first in both the 50-free and 500-free races. Classmate Jose Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./University Heights) had the top finish in the 1000-free and 100-fly. Juniors Chris Polanco (Bronx, N.Y./Aviation), Ramon Peralta (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy), freshman Carlos Alonso (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders), and sophomore Jeremy Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Dreamyard Prep) were also double winners.
Nelson Medina (Peekskill, N.Y./Lehman HS) won both the one and three meter diving events.
The Lightning will return to the APEX Pool on Tuesday, January 7, as Lehman will host College of Staten Island in another key conference meet. The races are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
