BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College swimming and diving teams settled for a split against SUNY Purchase, on Monday evening. The women fell 118-87, while the men won 104-60. It was the home opener for both Lightning teams.
Freshman
Angela Mejia (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior
Susana Perez (New York, N.Y./Community Health Academy) led the way for the women, by winning two races each. They were members of the first place 200-medley relay team, along with sophomore
Victoria Michalatos (Elmsford, N.Y./Briarcliff) and junior
Mosebopetan Oladele (Bronx, N.Y./A.P. Randolph), as they completed the race in 2:13.33. Mejia finished first in the 100-fly (1:07.88), while Perez earned gold in the 100-back with a time of 1:16.42.
Junior
Joannie Vargas (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Lehman H.S.) won the one meter diving event.
On the men's side, juniors
Abel Dupres (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton),
Jeremy Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Dreamyard Prep),
Enes Mernica (Bronx, N.Y./Belmont Prep), and
Anthony Preda (Long Island City, N.Y./Basha) were each double winners for the Lightning. Dupres earned gold in the 100-fly (53.69) and the 50-free (21.86). Guerra finished first in the 200-free (1:56.12) and 100-free (52.13), while Preda won the 200 IM (2:08.19) and 100-breast (1:01.56).
Mernica (Bronx, N.Y./Belmont Prep) won two long distance races, earning gold in the 500-free (5:33.37) and coming in first in the 1000-free with a time of 11:58.54.
