Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team saw its run through the CUNYAC Championships come to an end on Wednesday night, as the #3 seeded Lightning fell to #2 seed Staten Island, 5-0, in a Semifinal Round matchup. CSI will advance to the Championship Game, and will face top-seeded Brooklyn College, who defeated CCNY 1-0 in the other Semifinal tonight.
Lehman will now await a potential bid into the post-season ECAC Metro Region Championship.
Tonight, CSI (9-7-2) got off to a hot start, scoring a pair of goals in the game's first eight minutes. The Lightning settled down, and began to find a rhythm on offense. Junior
Ana Lopes (Venancio Aires, Brazil/Aparecida School) had a shot blocked, followed by a pair of shots on goal by freshman
Pamela Sanchez (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) and sophomore
Renee Taylor (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman HS). In the 40
th minute, CSI broke through once again, and took a 3-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, sophomore
Daisy Narvaez (New York, N.Y./A. Philip Randolph) managed a shot on goal on the first possession, but could not beat the CSI keeper. The Dolphins scored two more goals in the second half for the 5-0 victory.
On the night, Lehman keeper
Stephanie Gonzalez (Yonkers, N.Y./Gorton) made nine saves, and was tested throughout the match.
The Lightning are now 8-8-1 on the season, and are eligible for an ECAC bid. The selections will be made on Monday, November 10.
