Box Score 2 NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team continued their hot streak, as they swept the College of New Rochelle, in a non-conference doubleheader, 21-1 and 26-1, on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore catcher Kyala Cruz led the way for the Lightning by hitting two home runs in each game of the doubleheader.
Twelve different Lightning (7-17) batters tallied hits in the opening game, while nine scored. Cruz (Brooklyn, N.Y./American Senior) scored four of those runs and produced seven runs batted in, with five of the RBI coming from her two round trippers. Sophomore shortstop Jona Kerluku (Ozone Park, N.Y./Construction Trade) also scored four runs while recording two hits, two walks, and a run batted in.
Junior first baseman Ashley Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy) drilled a two-run home run, added an RBI double, and scored three runs. Junior Joselyn Cuzco (Bronx, N.Y./Flushing) drove in a run on a single for her first hit of the season. Freshman third baseman Linda Resto (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.) had an RBI double and scored three runs.
Senior outfielder Jelsey Cox (Queens Village, N.Y./Campus Magnet) successfully stole home for Lehman's first run of the game as she ended up with three runs scored, one hit, and a walk. Freshman outfielder Alondra Rodriguez (Jarabacoa, D.R./Academy for Social Action) and freshman outfielder Imalay Rodriguez (Dominican Republic/Metropolitan) each had an RBI single.
Senior pitcher Sheila San Andres (Woodside, N.Y./Construction Trade) earned her first victory of the season by pitching a complete game, giving up one earned run and fanning four batters. At the plate, she drove in two runs, had a hit, and scored a run.
In Game Two, with Cox and Kerluku on the corners, Cox once again successfully stole home for Lehman's first run, while Kerluku stole second. Later in the inning, Cruz provided more déjà vu by blasting a three-run homerun to put a cap on the inning. She finished with six runs batted in, four runs scored, and four hits. Kerluku registered a pair of two-run doubles, an RBI single, and scored three runs. Sophomore outfielder Chariny Graciano (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Information Technology) drove in three runs, two of them on RBI singles, and scored two runs.
Freshman first baseman Paola Batista (Bronx, N.Y./Washington Irving) scored two runs, had two hits, and drove in a run. Freshman outfielder Kelsy Camilo (New York, N.Y./The Taft School) tallied an RBI single and scored a run.
San Andres picked up her second win of the afternoon, and another complete game, this time giving up no earned runs and striking out eleven batters.
The Lightning will be back in action on Tuesday, April 15, for a key CUNY Athletic Conference doubleheader against York, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
