Cruz Collects Four Hits as Softball Drops Doubleheader at SJC

BELLEROSE, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference road games at St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon, 9-4, and 7-3.

In the opener, Lehman (3-13) got its first run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by sophomore catcher Kyala Cruz (Brooklyn, N.Y./American Senior), which scored freshman Linda Resto (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.). In the fifth inning, Lehman plated three more runs, on an RBI groundout by sophomore Chariny Graciano (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Information Technoligy), and a Cruz single.

In Game Two, Lehman took a 1-0 lead in the third inning.  The Lightning used three hits, including an RBI single by Cruz that scored Graciano. The Lightning scored two more runs in the seventh inning, as sophomore Xiomara Pacheco (New York, N.Y./St. Jean Baptiste) tripled to score senior Jelsey Cox (Queens Village, N.Y./Campus Magnet), before scoring herself, on an RBI groundout by Graciano.

Up next, Lehman travels north to face the College of Mt. St. Mary for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 8.
