Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Lehman College women's soccer standout Ana Lopes tallied two goals to help the Lightning win the CUNY Athletic Conference opener, a 3-0 decision over York College, on Wednesday evening, in a game played at Aviator Field.
Lehman has now won two consecutive games, and is unbeaten in the last four. During that four game stretch, Lehman has only allowed one goal and earned shutouts in back-to-back matches.
In the first half tonight, Lehman (4-1-1, 1-0 CUNYAC) got on the board thanks to Lopes (Venancio Aires, Brazil/Aparecida School) cashing in on a rebound, 36:10 into the match. With 3:23 remaining in the opening half, Lopes struck again, this time redirecting the ball into the net on a deflection, to extend the Lightning's lead to 2-0 over York (0-4, 0-1 CUNYAC).
Just over two minutes into the second stanza, junior defender Samantha Dias (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) crossed the ball to junior forward Juliana Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) who headed the ball into the net to give Lehman a three-goal cushion.
Freshman midfielder Lillian Barreto (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman), Dias, and sophomore defender Renee Taylor (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.) each picked up an assist for the Lightning. Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Gonzalez (Yonkers, N.Y./Gorton) stopped the only shot she faced to pick up her fourth victory of the season.
The Lightning will be back in action on Saturday, when Lehman travels to Staten Island to take on the Dolphins in the second conference contest of the season. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
