Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – Lehman College freshman midfielder
Lillian Barreto's three goals led the women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Sarah Lawrence College, in non-conference action, on Sunday afternoon on the South Field. Lehman is now unbeaten in seven of the last eight matches.
Junior midfielder
Ana Lopes (Venancio Aires, Brazil/Aparecida School) got the scoring started for the Lightning (6-2-1) quickly as her shot deflected off the crossbar and into the net to give the home team a 1-0 lead, just 3:24 into the match. Less than five minutes later, Barreto (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) took a feed from junior defender
Samantha Dias (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) and tipped the ball past Sarah Lawrence's (2-5-0) goalkeeper to extend Lehman's lead to 2-0. Barreto's second goal was a shot from 15-yards out to give the Lightning a three-goal advantage, just 13:19 into the match. Her third and final goal of the afternoon occurred with 23:10 remaining in the opening half when she gathered a rebound in front and banked it home, for her ninth of the year, to give Lehman more breathing room.
In the second half, Lehman continued to put pressure on the Gryphons' defense. Freshman midfielder
Pamela Sanchez (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) scored her first collegiate goal on a rocket from 15-yards out to increase Lehman's lead to 5-0 just over eight minutes into the second stanza. Junior forward
Juliana Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) capped off Lehman's scoring by tapping the ball into the back of the cage for her seventh goal of the season, with 16:30 remaining in regulation.
Dias finished the match with two assists while Lopes added an assist of her own. Freshman goalkeeper
Stephanie Gonzalez (Yonkers, N.Y./Gorton) stopped the only two shots she faced to earn her fifth shutout of the year and her sixth victory of the season.
The Lightning will travel to Purchase College to take on the Panthers on Tuesday evening. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
