Generoso's Goal Holds Up in 1-0 Women's Soccer Victory

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. – Junior forward Juliana Generoso's goal, with 31:18 to go in regulation, proved to be the difference as the Lehman College women's soccer team knocked off local rival, Maritime College, 1-0, on the South Field, on Wednesday afternoon. The Lightning are now 2-1 to start the year, including 2-0 on home turf.

Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Gonzalez (Yonkers, N.Y./Gorton) kept Lehman in the game early by stopping three shots in the first 45 minutes of play. In the second half, the Privateers (0-3) turned up the heat but Gonzalez made six more saves, totaling nine for the afternoon.

With just over 31 minutes remaining in regulation time, sophomore defender Renee Taylor (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.) played the ball through the defense to Generoso (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) who went one-on-one with Maritime's goalkeeper and netted her third goal of the year. It would turn out to be the sole goal of the game.

The Lightning will travel to Allentown, Pa. for the Cedar Crest Soccer Tournament this weekend, beginning with a battle against the host Falcons on Saturday, September 6, at 3:00 p.m. Last season, the Lightning won the Cedar Crest Soccer Tournament.
