NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Lehman College swimming and diving teams fell to Baruch College, in a CUNY Athletic Conference dual meet, on Friday evening. The women's team lost, 109-86, while the men were defeated, 106-97.
The women's team was led by freshman Angela Mejia (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior Mosebopetan Oladele (Bronx, N.Y./A. Philip Randolph) who were double winners. Mejia earned gold in the 50-free, completing the race in 29.29. She was also the top swimmer in the 100-free, with a time of 1:07.42. Oladele was the top swimmer in the 100-breast, finishing the race less than a second ahead of teammate Ericka Lewin (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon), who completed the event in 1:36.57. Oladele was also a member of the first place 200-free relay team.
On the men's side, juniors Abel Dupres (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) and Jeremy Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Dreamyard Prep) were each triple winners for Lehman. They were members of the first place 200-medley relay team, along with sophomore Carlos Alonso (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) and junior Anthony Preda (Long Island City, N.Y./Basha), that finished the race in 1:53.41.
Dupres earned gold in the 200-free (2:05.03), finishing more than 28 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from Baruch. He was also the top finisher in the 100-fly, this time beating the runner-up by just over a second. In the 50-free, Guerra touched the wall just 0.16 ahead of Andrew Lubrino from Baruch. He also earned first place in the 100-free, finishing the race in 57.81. Preda won the 200-IM in 2:23.77. It was a photo-finish in the 800-free as junior Enes Mernica (Bronx, N.Y./Belmont Prep) earned gold by 0.01.
The Lightning will return to the APEX Swimming Pool, to battle York College, in another CUNYAC dual meet, on Tuesday, at 6:00 p.m.
