BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College swimming and diving teams fell to William Paterson University, in a non-conference dual meet during Senior Night, on Thursday evening. The women lost, 127-93, while the men were defeated, 129-77.
The women were led by junior Christy Maldonado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Academy of Finance & Enterprise), who won the 500-free, completing the long distance race in 7:21.56. She was also a member of the first place 200-free relay team, along with sophomore Samantha Cardi (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.), freshman Gabriela Garcia (Urban Assembly for Applied Science and Math), and junior Susana Perez (New York, N.Y./Community Health Academy), that completed the race in 2:15.44.
Freshman Angela Mejia (Bronx, N.Y.) won the 100-free by less than a second, completing the race in 59.21. Junior Mosebopetan Oladele (Bronx, N.Y./A. Philip Randolph) finished first in the 200-breast, with a time of 3:11.46.
The men's team was led by junior Abel Dupres (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton), who was a triple winner. He finished first in the 50-free (21.89), 100-free (48.53), and was a member of the first place 200-medley relay team, along with junior Jeremy Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Dreamyard Prep), senior Christopher McKie (Brooklyn, N.Y./Valley Stream Christian Academy), and junior Enes Mernica (Bronx, N.Y./Belmont Prep), that completed the race in 1:44.16.
Freshman Francis Turbi (New York, N.Y./The College Academy) won the 200-breast, with a time of 2:51.29.
Before the meet began, the Lightning honored four-student athletes who competed in the final regular season home meet of their collegiate careers. For the women, Victoria Michalatos (Elmsford, N.Y./Briarcliff) was honored with a plaque. On the men's side, Moustapha Adoyi (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Coalition), McKie, and Ewaen Curtis Uwaifo (Bronx, N.Y./St. Madeline), received plaques for their years of service to the swimming and diving program.
On Saturday, the Lightning will travel to Mount Saint Mary, for their final dual meet of the year. The first event is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
